About
Much of my inspiration comes from the architecture and culture of places I have visited - Peru, Italy, Thailand, Mexico and Egypt among others - and more recently abstract themes such as secrecy and concealment, calligraphy and rain!
I often work with plain cream fabric using my sewing machine and thread to stitch, quilt, manipulate, texture and embellish the fabric; thread is a major element in my work.
I often use geometric shapes and patterns - although I do occasionally break out! I make lots of samples as I work to find the best way to interpret a motif or pattern - and so creative thinking takes over and the finished quilt is often quite different to the initial design. I also hand-dye fabrics for more colourful quilts and often include mixed media in my work and teaching.
I have won many awards over the past 22 years and my quilts have been selected for exhibitions in the UK, Europe, Canada,USA and Japan.
I am an Invited Judge for the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles.
